Solving the Information Stovepipe Problem
A Chiliad technical brief
Most large organizations struggle to exploit the information resources distributed across their extended enterprises. The fundamental problem is most of their information is managed in "stovepipe" applications and databases that service individual business units, functional departments and other groups within the extended enterprise, or across enterprises. While these systems may perform their intended functions well, any attempt to "connect the dots" by using information from more than one system is likely to yield unsatisfactory results.
With its Discovery/Alert platform, Chiliad has established a new paradigm for solving the information stovepipe problem. Rather than attempt to replicate or re‐locate data or indexes in a central location, Discovery/Alert adapts to distributed enterprises by creating a peer‐to‐peer network of cooperating nodes that index and analyze information in place, securely, without disrupting existing systems.
This technical brief outlines the information stovepipe problem, previous attempts to solve it and why they fall short, and outlines Chiliad's new paradigm for exploiting information resources.
